"Ryugakushita" is a hand-made calendar documenting a short-term study abroad and homestay in Japan. Development coincided with study of the Japanese language, allowing for an exploration of the language's pictographic nature. Overall the piece aims to encapsulate the spontaneity and excitement of homestay and international travel. The calendar consists of 80 pages divided between typographic expressions, printed photos scanned on vellum, and formatted pages that recollect of each day in the first person. Bound in a traditional style, the calendar leverages collage, riso print, laser-jet printing, and ink-jet printing.
